Summer Missionary 2023

Zachary Thomas

Where do you currently attend school? Missouri State University in Springfield
Where are you serving this summer, and who is your mentor?
Lifepointe Church of Sedalia MO with Rusty Thomas
How did you first encounter Jesus Christ, and how has His lordship continued to change your life?
I was 12 years old at Winter Jam in Kansas City. There was a time that night when the music went soft and we all had our heads bowed. I knew right then that God was tugging on my heart. I wanted to leave that place knowing without a doubt that I would get to be with him for eternity. That is when I gave my life to Christ. Since that point on my relationship with Christ has continued to grow. It has not been easy, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
What does the church mean to you?
The church to me is a group of like-minded Christians with the same goal: to know God and make God known. Gathering as a church on Sundays is like a recharge for the week to come so that I am well equip to disciple through out the week.
As a student, how have you shared – and are currently sharing – your faith with others?
This semester at Missouri State I have been working with FBC of Springfield to start a student-ran organization where students can gather once a week for worship and devotion. I have also helped on the worship team at Freeway Ministries. I am also currently serving on the worship team at Waymark church of Monett, MO and Lifepointe of Sedalia, MO.
What do you feel is your vocational call (future career), and how do you anticipate sharing your faith through that call?
I believe that my vocational calling is to become a police officer. I believe that as a police officer you are, often times, seeing people at their worst and being able to help them and share the love of Jesus would be a great fit for me.
Why do you want to be a summer missionary?
I believe that the concept of missions is to go out in the world and reach the lost. Every time I have done mission work in the past, God has worked on me just as much as he is working on the lost people that I have come upon through those opportunities. This is why I would love to be a summer missionary. I want to further my journey with God and help others along the way!
