Summer Missionary 2023

Samuel Johnston

Where do you currently attend school? Northwest Community College in Senatobia, MS
Where are you serving this summer, and who is your mentor?
The Bridge Collegiate at Mizzou with Scott Westfall
How did you first encounter Jesus Christ, and how has His lordship continued to change your life?
I didn’t give my life to the Lord till I was 17 after going through a lot of different difficulties in my life. I lost my ability to play D1 football, so I ended up going to a community college, not to a university, which I could’ve gotten payed for. This obviously destroyed me, but I also lost a lot of people, casting me into a depression. I was shown God’s love through my youth pastor. Sadly, he passed away after my first week of college, but this pushed me out of being a complacent Christian. My faith has grown and matured a lot since then.
What does the church mean to you?
It is a place for Christians to share wisdom amongst one another and a place to gather knowledge from elders or those further in their walk.
As a student, how have you shared – and are currently sharing – your faith with others?
Yes I have but I have more experience sharing the gospel on multiple mission trips.
What do you feel is your vocational call (future career), and how do you anticipate sharing your faith through that call?
I don’t feel that I am being called to ministry but I do wish to further my faith.
Why do you want to be a summer missionary?
I believe that missions should be the spreading of good news and that this is the only thing necessary. This is because worldly needs come second to spiritual truth. I wish to grow my faith and I believe that God is calling me here, and I trust Him.
