Summer Missionary 2023

Samuel Majors

Where are you serving this summer, and who is your mentor?
Redemption Ranch, Winfield, MO, with Jason Zellmer
How did you first encounter Jesus Christ, and how has His lordship continued to change your life?
I’ve been raised in a Christian home my whole life but never really had a close relationship with Jesus all throughout my growing up years. It wasn’t until I was 17 and at the lowest point in my life that I started to rethink my life and actually pray to God on a regular basis instead of viewing Him like a blank wall that I talked to and never receive anything back. But the moment I tried to get to know Him I received His Holy Spirit and was changed forever! His continue pursuit towards me as im pursuing Him has made me closer to Him day in and day out.
What does the church mean to you?
The church, that being the body of Christ and the Christian family, has given me a purpose. I want nothing more than to see the church grow in numbers and in strength. Not only here but all of the nations of the world.
As a student, how have you shared – and are currently sharing – your faith with others?
I have shared my faith in the past and currently through whatever God puts in my path. Whether that’s my coworkers or people I meet on the street. I use it as an outlet for me to spread the faith. I have shared while walking the town of Troy, looking for homeless people to talk with and help. God has been faithful in giving me people to reach. I have been a part of a missionary team to Kansas City twice to preach to African families of that area.
What do you feel is your vocational call (future career), and how do you anticipate sharing your faith through that call?
I feel my calling from God/future career would to be a missionary for Japan and to be a leader for the youth of not only Japan but this country as well. I would not only like to pursue it but also to make it my full time job and meaning of who I am as a person. As far as how I would like to share my faith as a missionary, I would like to do so through church planting, leadership opportunities, pastoral work and dealing with tasks such as sex traffic victims or those suffering with abuse.
Why do you want to be a summer missionary?
My concept of missions would be someone dying to self so that he or she can deliver the gospel to those whom have not heard of the good news of Jesus. Missions is group of devoted people of God to help those in need and to show them a purpose to this life we have on earth. My reasons for wanting to join would be to grow as a leader, see the young reached with the Gospel, to learn how to properly share my faith and to also grow as a Christian man myself.
