Summer Missionary 2023

Jeremiah Hower

Where do you currently attend school? Rolla High School
Where are you serving this summer, and who is your mentor?
First Baptist Church Rolla with Noble Howe
How did you first encounter Jesus Christ, and how has His lordship continued to change your life?
I’ve always been in a good Christian home, so the Spirit has never seemed to leave my side. My greatest encounter so far included forgiving my friend who had wronged me. I’d slowly distanced myself when he caught on and apologized. I didn’t think I’d have it in me to forgive, but I did. We’re good friends to this day. I see God in my daily life, as I try to pray and walk with Him. I see Him change lives including my own, how am I supposed to ignore that?
What does the church mean to you?
Church is not the typical sit down hear some music and a sermon for me. I play bass and get to worship God with more than simply my voice, and when I’m not on stage, I’m behind the scenes making sure those still scared to leave their house can hear His word and worship with the rest of the church family.
As a student, how have you shared – and are currently sharing – your faith with others?
Currently I am in the process of helping a friend in a very sad situation, while praying nonstop for them and leading them to a better life in Christ. They are a believer, but I’m strengthening their bond and giving them a little better life while doing it. I also have some good friends in my school’s theater department, and I’ll occasionally bring up some religious content to the conversation. I’ve even recently gotten one to join me in coming to youth group!
What do you feel is your vocational call (future career), and how do you anticipate sharing your faith through that call?
I plan to become a musical education teacher, but that field is very hard as a Christian considering we can’t minister to students in a public school. So instead I will try to minister to my fellow teachers and let my students know that I’m a Christian with pride.
Why do you want to be a summer missionary?
Missions are goals for spreading the gospel in my mind. They’re projects to bring people to Jesus. I want to be a summer missionary to help foster the young minds of people very similar to myself, because knowing I can relate to them more means I can have a greater impact on their life. When that impact is used for discipleship more names are written in the Book of Life.
