Summer Missionary 2023

Hope Raymond

Where do you currently attend school? Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge, AR
Where are you serving this summer, and who is your mentor?
Black River Baptist Association with Paul Reams
How did you first encounter Jesus Christ, and how has His lordship continued to change your life?
My initial encounter with Jesus started when I was 7 years old. I attended a church service with my great grandmother. The serve was powerful and moving and I was lead to start my journey with Jesus Christ right then. My relationship with Jesus has grown over the years thanks to my grandmother and church family. Jesus has brought me through some really hard times and taught me countless lessons along the way. I am the person I am today because of the experiences He has put me through. He has changed me for the better time and time again. For the longest time I was angry and strayed away from my faith, but Jesus has been there for me when I didn’t deserve it. Jesus used my battles to bring me closer to Him and to help me grow in my faith. I am forever grateful and hope to grow in my relationship with Him even more.
What does the church mean to you?
The church means a lot to me. I have been in church for as long as I can remember. The church is where I met the people who have helped me grow and have pushed me to be the best person I can be. The church is my second family.
As a student, how have you shared – and are currently sharing – your faith with others?
I try my best to be a light in the world. Through everything I do ,whether it be sports, academics, or simply living my everyday life, I want people to see Jesus through me. I want my life to be the greatest witness to those around me. The way I speak, the conversations I have with people, the love I show others. I want all of those things to represent Jesus and His love.
What do you feel is your vocational call (future career), and how do you anticipate sharing your faith through that call?
If I am being completely honest, I have no idea what God is calling me to do vocationally. I am currently waiting and praying for God to open my eyes to path He wants me on. I do know that whatever career path I end up on I want to do it for the glory of God.
Why do you want to be a summer missionary?
Ever since I was little I have always wanted to help people. For years I told my mom I wanted to be a missionary. Then life happened and I strayed away from that desire. Since graduating high school and attending a Baptist University I have seen that maybe I still have the desire to do missions. I would love this opportunity to really see what path God has set for me. I would also love to be apart of helping others come to know Christ. I want to be apart of what God is doing right now.
