Each month, our Campus Missionaries fill out reports on how God is working in and through their ministries. These answers are taken from their reports with their permission.

What was your greatest discipleship win this month?

Scott Westfall, Missouri Valley College:

I met with my summer interns on our first ever MVCM intern retreat from 8am-9pm on Monday (May 11). Loved pouring into these guys. One of my interns has already made progress in his walk in just a week. Love seeing prayers answered so quickly.

Kale Uzzle, University of Missouri St. Louis:

Consistency with the folks I’m coaching has been the biggest win. I’m glad I’ve been able to be there for them as another voice of encouragement.

Kyle Rapinchuk, College of the Ozarks:

I have continued to meet on a weekly basis via FaceTime-with a student I have been discipling all year. We will continue to meet throughout the summer, too, as he is local.

Heather Murray, Washington University:

I’ve been talking with a student who dabbles in what is more typical of New Age practices. God has opened the door in our relationship that I can be a Christian she feels safe to talk with about these things without feeling judged, but also that I can subtly direct her notions on what it means to be spiritually grounded in the midst of some of her practices. While she figures these things out, I want to understand what these things mean to her, and be certain she is grounding herself in worshiping the Creator, not creation (Heather Murray)

Chris Wilson, Missouri State University

We finished the year strong with our discipleship groups. Students want to continue to meet in the summer.

Levi Springfield, Missouri State University:

We are still going through a discipleship study in a group. This last week I had them look at the story of Zacchaeus. Each person was required to have a question and interesting thing they noticed instead of having me teach/talk the majority of the time like usual. We have ten people involved and the conversations were really good. Afterwards, I talked to one of the guys and told him I was encouraged by his growth and willingness to share what the Lord is teaching him. This is someone I have been discipling.

Reese Hammond, Southeast Missouri State University:

We have consistently met online for discipleship and we were all engaged. It’s been hard but it’s been as good as it could be on Zoom.

Greg Xander, Truman State University

I have developed good relationships with on campus ministers and local pastors from other denominations. I asked them to do an interview podcast together with me as a group to help deal with questions students and everyone are going through or asking at times. They actually said yes and we did the first one this past week. They all really valued it and want to keep doing these. A discipleship win to do some events together and build trust among a wide array of people who love Jesus and hope it can create a model for others to do.

Timothy & Teresa Toolen, Maryville University:

We are still meeting with our group on Zoom every week with a few students that are still wanting to meet. We have talked a lot about encouragement with others around us and how to spread the gospel during this hard time.

Jon Smith, Missouri Southern State University:

Biggest win was spending time on Zoom calls with the Collegiate Ministers’ Fellowship talking about various areas of ministry during the current crisis.

Christina Boatright, North Central Missouri College:

One my students called randomly last week literally laughing and crying at the same time because she was able to share the gospel with someone in person for the first time since school closed. She had been praying about what and how God would have her do this with everything going on. She was at a team roping competition (she is a team roper) and a young lady came up to her and started asking questions about Jesus! She said that it was a great conversation she hopes will happen again!

Bruce Wade, Missouri S&T:

13 students have participated in the YOUversion Through the NT in 90 Days Bible Study.

Paul Damery, Missouri Western University:

One of my favorite discipleship moments this month was catching up with a student who is about to graduate and talking through what it looks like to live out his faith in his current life situations. It’s fun to watch students grow up and live out their faith independently of our ministry (even though of course we miss them).
